Many hospitals and clinics use artificial UV-C lights to help prevent infection, mounted above eye level and directed upward to help sanitize air as it circulates without causing problems for humans. Air circulates within these rooms, so particles of dust (and dead skin cells) acting as “rafts” for germs are exposed to the light as they float around the room. This helps reduce infection risks.

So there was a reason beyond a cheery atmosphere that I told you that your sickroom should be made open to the sun. You might even consider adding a UV-C light of your own to the sickroom, or the area just outside it, to bolster the effects of the sun’s rays.
